Frida Kahlo

(English translation below)

Udstillingen, Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving, er nemlig sat op på Brooklyn Museum.

Woops Bake shop – 548 Driggs Ave, 11211, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

La Mercerie – 53 Howard St, 10013, SoHo, Manhattan

Maman NYC – Locations i SoHo, Tribeca, The Meatpacking og Greenpoint

Five Leaves – 18 Bedford Ave, 11222, Brooklyn

Two Hands – 164 Mott Street, 10013, Nolita, Manhattan

…Og mange, mange flere!

Translation:

I’m in a great mood on this Saturday. I woke up completely rested, the sun was shining when I went down to the gym, and a run only made my mood even better. Exercise is simply free medicine for the body and soul, you have to remember this, on days you are not motivated to go, haha! Today I want to write a little about what you can do, this month, in New York. The first spring month – how crazy that the winter is already over!

While NYC warms up and moves towards warmer seasons, it’s a great idea to pay a visit to one of the city’s many museums. I like to explore which exhibitions the museums offer each month. This month I was certainly not disappointed. The exhibition, Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving, is set up at the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibition is the largest Frida Kahlo exhibition in the US for 10 years, and shows her clothes, jewelry, other private items, paintings, drawings, and photographs. What better month to celebrate Frida Kahlo, than Women’s National History Month, it’s nothing less than the perfect timing! You can find tickets and information about the exhibition right here!

It is not a real New York visit, without having seen some type of sport! At least I don’t think so, because the US is synonymous with sports and they especially love their American sports. I live in Brooklyn, so of course I have been cheering for the Brooklyn Basketball team, Brooklyn Nets, and I also think you should go watch a game. The team is located in the Barclays Center and is easily accessible by train from Manhattan. It’s really a great experience to watch a basketball match or any other American sporting event, for that matter. The atmosphere, surroundings, players, popcorn, hot dogs, halftime show and cheerleaders. It all comes together perfectly and is just a fun experience to have. You can see Nets’s games for the rest of March here!

As I have mentioned before, café visits are such a cozy and relaxing thing to do, in my opinion. Therefore, I would like to make a small list of some of my favorite cafes slash hang-out spots, in New York City, that you can visit in the month of March:

Woops Bake shop – 548 Driggs Ave, 11211, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

La Mercerie – 53 Howard St, 10013, SoHo, Manhattan

Maman NYC – Locations in SoHo, Tribeca, The Meatpacking og Greenpoint

Five Leaves – 18 Bedford Ave, 11222, Brooklyn

Two Hands – 164 Mott Street, 10013, Nolita, Manhattan

…And many, many more..

Bon Appetit!

One of the things I love about traveling is to find restaurants, cafes and snack spots, that I can visit and explore when I am at the destination. Therefore, I want to share some more dinning spots, which I love here in New York. Then you can use it as inspiration, if you are going to visit the big apple. Because this place is somewhat of a food jungle, and there are more restaurants, cafes and dessert places, than you can dream of. My plan is to share at least one food spot a month. I’m always out exploring NYC and its culinary scene, so it’s just great to be able to share it with you guys.

This time I visited a cafe in Greenpoint, a French one, I have something for French cafes. Both the food and the sweets are usually good there, at least I have only experienced good French food in New York so far. The cafe I went to in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, is called Maman. The atmosphere and the interior is cozy, something I really appreciate when I am out to get a hot beverage and something to eat on a Sunday afternoon. The place was bright and inviting, with blue patterns on the coffee cups and plates, recycled wooden tables with the right patina and cozy lighting.

The food is French with an American touch. You can order quiche and croissants, olala – very French, and buttermilk pancakes or avocado toast. So a mixture of the two kitchens. I got a salad last time I was there which was quite tasteful. Sam ate a pound cake with lavender glaze and had a cup of coffee – also really good. I can recommend the place for lunch or if you crave an afternoon coffee. It is the perfect place for that kind of thing. Maman is not only located in Greenpoint, but has locations in Tribeca, SoHo and Meatpacking. Bon Appetit!

Translation:

Happy weekend everyone! I’m just checking in to show you an outfit from last week. Quite casual with jeans and sneakers, but made a little more fun with my pearl bag and the most beautiful brocade jacket. Have you seen the pattern on this jacket? It’s beautiful! Daisies all over! I almost couldn’t help feeling a little royal, because daisies remind me of the Danish Queen, who has been called Daisy since childhood, which is the perfect name for her. This jacket is becoming a wardrobe stable over the spring and summer, I can just feel it. I’m going to style it with shorts, skirts or dresses. I can hardly wait for the weather to get better now, as February will soon be over. Do you feel the same way?

I am making it pretty short today, because Sam and I are going for a trip Upstate to enjoy the good weather and nature. We are back in town tomorrow Sunday and it is going to be so good to get away for a bit. What are you doing this weekend?

(English translation below)

Happy weekend everyone! I’ve been away for quite a while and it’s because I’ve been sick. Sometimes the best thing you can do is to slow down and take care of yourself, so I’ve done that, but luckily I’m feeling better now. I look forward to making a lot of new posts and content for the blog. I am also excited for shooting pictures again, I have missed that.

Some weekends back, these cakes were enjoyed, because a Danish bakery, called Ole & Steen, opened in New York City, and I am very excited about this. I think I might make a new tradition of eating cake every Friday, haha. The first store just opened at Union Square and they have so many delicious classic Danish cakes, pastries, and bread. I was literally in cake heaven, when I stepped in the door a few weeks ago. It may sound a bit crazy, that I can be so fond of a bakery opening, but when you live far away from your home country, getting specialties from there, is one of the best things.

This weekend will be spent relaxing and having fun, so that I can feel even better after being sick. Maybe some walks in the good weather, a cafe or restaurant visit, and a lot of movie watching. It sounds like a pretty nice weekend in my ears.

What are your plans? Maybe some cake eating (yes, I have cake on my brain atm, hah), relaxation or celebrations?

Urban beach is perhaps not the right word to use, because you can’t swim in the East River, but at least, it was the vibes that the place gave me, when I was there. A small area of sand and a maritime ambiance, in the midst of the big city and the tall buildings, overlooking the Manhattan Skyline at sunset. A pretty cool spot! The place is Brooklyn Bridge Park at Pier 5. There was recently built soccer pitches and basketball courts on the pier. And then there’s this little piece of beach, as I call it. Maybe I should bring a folding chair and a parasol, and sit there once summer arrives, haha! People would probably stare a bit.

Denim is undisputedly one of my favorite materials, which I mentioned before, I like wearing several denim pieces at the same time. I think I had this shirt, for a good 10 years. As far as I remember, I bought it in Copenhagen in a vintage store. That’s what I call a good buy, and it still look as great as when I bought it. It is the type of garment, which lasts a lifetime. I can never get tired of a classic denim shirt. It works for just about anything, as here when I styled it with my wool knit and jeans. A pretty nice winter look with a jacket on top, of course. The green color just gives the outfit a little extra!

By the way, I highly recommend taking a trip to Pier 5 and Brooklyn Bridge Park which is super beautiful, especially at sunset.
