Meget ambitiøst, I know. Man kunne tilmed se halmkransen igennem.

Næste år håber jeg, at have lidt bedre adventskranse-karma, hah!

Translation:

One of the coziest things about December is Advent Sundays. You can spend time relaxing, eating christmas sweets, and drink christmasy beverages. And of course light the Advent wreath! Let me just explain a bit about the Advent tradition, which is a Danish and Scandinavian tradition. Every Sunday leading up to the 24th and 25th of December, we celebrate Advent in Scandinavia. We do this by lighting a candle each Sunday. On the fourth Sunday of Advent all four candles are lit in the Advent wreath or decoration. This used to be a celebration of Christ, but in the modern Scandinavia today, it’s more a question of tradition than it is about faith and Christianity. Most people in Denmark are not particularly religious anymore. I always love to make Christmas decorations of one kind or the other. I often use pine branches, flowers, moss and other things from nature to create my decorations. This year I had also planned on making an advent wreath.

I wanted to make a beautiful dried hydrangea flower wreath. I had seen these dried flower wreaths many places and thought it looked so pretty. Unfortunately, I had great trouble finding hydrangea in New York, as it seems to be out of season. They were not available at my local flower shop anymore, so when I was busy at work, I got Sam to search for the flowers. He was Upstate, so maybe he could find them up there. It turned out that he did find them. I was so happy when I finally had my hands on the flowers, and I had even bought a straw wreath in Denmark to tie the flowers around. Very ambitious, I know. I had read that you could either dry the flowers in advance, or tie them freshly onto the wreath, and then let them dry directly on there. Because I was already behind, I did the last thing. However, I should never have done that, because the flowers dried in a very ugly way, they ended up looking like small dried up raisins, and the flowers did not hold the color, but became brown. The flower wreath was not at all neat, colorful and voluminous, as I had seen in various magazines and on instagram, haha! You could even see the straw wreath through the flowers. It was really a failed advent decoration attempt. What went wrong? I suspect that the flowers dried too quickly in my warm living room. Maybe a cool shed or a basement would have done the trick. Next time, I have to dry the flowers in advance. Maybe it is also a matter of when the flowers are picked? I would love to receive some flower drying tips from you people, haha!

Fortunately, I found a quick solution in the form of a candleholder and some glass ornaments. I think it was a pretty good solution, although it was not the flower wreath I had dreamed about. Next year, I hope to have a little better advents wreath karma, hah! In any case, I’ll do it earlier next year.

I wish you all a really happy 3rd Sunday of Advent, and I hope you’ve had more luck with your advent wreaths this year.

Translation:

I actually think it can be a bit difficult with wishes. When I have to, I can never really think of anything to wish for, do you know that feeling? Therefore, I try to write wishes down during the year, so I always have a little something in my back pocket, when it’s time for Christmas or my birthday. This year, my wishes mostly consist of clothes, which is not the case every time. But a women always need a bit of new clothes (maybe not, but it’s an extra luxury). There are also two bags on my wishlist, I have a thing for bags and jackets! These are probably the two things that I love the most, when it comes to my wardrobe, and I can always find one or two I would like to own. I have linked to all my wishes below. Maybe you will find some inspiration for your own wishlist, after all, there is still a little bit of time before Christmas Eve.

Toteme Faux Fur Bag – I am head over heels for this faux fur bag from Toteme. It would look amazing with a casual grey sweat shirt, a pair of light blue jeans, and a long coat. Toteme is doing so well and I love their very simple and minimalist design.

Anine Bing Tee – Okay, I have a weakness for t-shirts with print and this one from Anine Bing is so cool! The colors and motif are very 80’s inspired, I love it!

Realisation The Naomi Skirt – And to go with the tee, I think the Realization skirt will be just perfect. Or maybe a chunky knit – there are many styling options.

Ganni Bag – I have been eyeing this bag a little too long by now, so I think it’s time to add it to my wishlist. The color and print are just so gorgeous, and I’m so fond of the box shape.

Alessi Electric Kettle – I always wish for something for the home. Sam and I could really use a new electric kettle and Alessi’s would be perfect! Pretty and classic at the same time. And with my tea consumption, it’s nice with a kettle of quality which lasts for many years, haha!

Plemo Hand Garment Steamer – Something boring, but nonetheless necessary: a hand steamer for all the wrinkled clothes. I’m immensely tired of my old iron and it’s so much easier to steam the clothes, in my opinion.

Ganni Jacquard Jacket – Is it not pretty? The daisy jacket from Ganni! I’m totally crazy about the print and the color. Fortunately, I’ve already got it from my mom in an early Christmas present, yay! Nevertheless, I put on the list for inspiration.

Jeg mærker virkelig, at juletravlheden har sænket sig over New York. Bevares, denne by er altid travl, for det er trods alt the city that never sleeps!

Translation:

I really feel that the Christmas bustle has lowered over New York. Of course, this city is always busy, because after all it’s the city that never sleeps! But it feels like there are extra many people aboard the subway in the morning rush hour. The trains are packed like sardines, and I’m going all the way from Brooklyn to midtown so it’s quite a commute on a crowded train. It might also be that the weather has become colder, so people prefer the train rather than cycling or other transport. Which is fully understandable. I also think people are extra busy with Christmas shopping and work they have to finish up before the holidays. And then there are loads of tourists in the city for Christmas. I try to relax and spend extra time doing cozy things in December, even though I’m busy. I’ve even decorated the apartment for Christmas, actually the first time I’m decorating since I moved to New York, and it’s just so cozy. This weekend I’m getting even more in the Christmas spirit, since I’m going to make Gløgg, so it’s ready for Christmas. Gløgg is a Danish version of mulled wine. It’s not exactly mulled wine, but a more Christmasy version, with delicious spices. I might share a recipe one of the next couple of weeks. By the way, I also have to show you guys, what I did last weekend, which was also very festive and Christmasy, but this will be in another post.

speaking of last weekend, I wore this outfit when Sam and I were going out for brunch. Once again we went to Saraghina. It has certainly become one of our favorite brunch places, haha. It’s not too crowded with people, the food is so delicious, and the prices are good. Before we went out to eat, we shot some pictures. The light was absolutely magical with the beautiful shadows. It’s the best when you just hit the perfect light. My outfit was quite bright, although it is winter, but it worked really well, I think. It actually gave me the urge to wear outfits that light up more here in the dark winter time. I like to play around with contrasts in my outfits. Especially when it comes to materials and texture. I therefore had styled a silk blouse with a vintage army jacket, a cotton skirt and a pair of shinny bordeaux western boots. To make the outfit extra feminine, I added my beloved pearl bag and my new pearl earrings from my sister. I have been so fond of the silk blouse from H&M Trend. The high neck and the draped look in the front, not to mention that the quality is so amazing. It’s unfortunately sold out online, but I’ll keep an eye on it and see if it comes back in stock. It’s actually also available in black, which is also sold out (sigh), I hope to get my hands on it at some point.

I’m gonna spend the rest of the evening relaxing. Maybe watch a christmas movie! Which Christmas movie is your favorite? I could use some inspiration.

As you probably already know, I have a special love for jewelry! Currently my heart beats extra fast, when it comes to pearl jewelry. There is something very pretty and feminine about pearls: the shiny surface, the shape, and the shimmering colors. Pearls are truly one of nature’s wonders, so beautiful! I have a little collection of pearl jewelry, and these are ones I treasure a lot. They are a mixture of purchases, presents, and my own jewelry design. Recently I have added two new pearl earrings to my collection. Some big baroque pearl earrings, which I got from my sister, as an early Christmas gift, and a few gorgeous statement earrings with gold details, which I bought for myself when I was in Denmark. I’m loving the new trend where the pearls are bigger, and that they have a natural shape, rather than the usual round pearls. It makes the jewelry more interesting, that the pearls have various shapes, and that they are one of a kind. I’ve even got an extra piercing in my one ear, so there is extra room to decorate with gorgeous pearl earrings, haha!

Translation:

I have collected some gorgeous pearl jewelry above, all of which have a fairly modern expression. pearl jewelry can tend to become a little granny-esque, but I think the jewelry, which are on the market right now, is anything but granny. One of the best things about design, is in my opinion, to use classic elements in a contemporary and modern way, and I really think the above jewelry are just that. In particular, I think, that there are many great pearl earrings to find from various brands currently. Where designers made use of pearls in various sizes, shapes and colours, in order to create an exciting expression. My next pearl buy, will be a necklace with a large baroque pearl as a pendant. I’m sure it will add a little extra glamour to my winter wardrobe.
Are you also crazy about pearl jewelry? What are some favorites, in your own personal jewelry collection?

The Rockefeller Center er det andet sted på min must do juleliste!

December – Oh, how I love December! The atmosphere, the coziness and all the beautiful decorations. New York is certainly one of the best cities to spend December in. The city is decorated to the finger tips: with lights, ornaments and garlands. This place is really something special at Christmas time. In this month’s What To Do In NYC, I want to share some of the things, that I love to do in New York in December. Little traditions, as I have repeated, in the three years I have lived in the city.

One of the things I just have to do every December is to visit ABC Carpet & Home, and preferably several times during December. ABC is the prettiest interior boutique – it’s absolutely magical all year round, but especially at Christmas they do a little extra. They sell the most gorgeous designer- and vintage furniture, chandeliers, silverware, rugs, pillows, and all sorts of knick knacks! Everything is stunning and very originally composed, and the atmosphere is amazing. For Christmas, they also sell the most beautiful Christmas decor and vintage ornaments. Above are pictures, of a small section, of the store and the products they sell. For Christmas, the children can also meet Santa Claus and have pictures taken. It is one of the coolest places in New York, to gather inspiration for decor and to make a nice Christmas purchase.

The Rockefeller Center is the second place on my must do Christmas list! If you have not visited this place at Christmas time, then maybe you know the Christmas classic: Home Alone? The scene where Kevin meets his mother in New York, under the Christmas tree, after being alone for several days. The square in front of Rockefeller Center is decorated with a giant Christmas tree and below is the iconic ice rink. The whole area is so beautifully decorated, with ornaments and angels, it’s completely magical! Every year, families from the New York area submit their bids for the perfect Christmas tree, and hope that just their tree, will be the lucky one, to decorate at The Rockefeller. Opposite from the beautiful Christmas tree, on 5th Avenue, the department store Saks, has the most exaggerated light show on the facade. It is really crazy and is accompanied by Christmas music. The area is a tourist magnet, especially at Christmas time, but I still think it’s worth the visit. I always get in the best Christmas mood, when visiting the area.

Every year at Christmas, my family and I watch a live Christmas show. This year we saw the ballet The Nutcracker, in Tivoli. If I had not already seen a Christmas play, I would definitely go see The Radio City’s Chrismas Spectacular, an annual and famous Christmas show in New York, which has been around for over 80 years. I actually saw it a few years back, with Sams family, and it was really nice. The show is packed with dance numbers, among others, from the dance group The Rockettes. You also meet Santa and there are several Christmas musical inspired songs. The show is a mixture of dance, music and singing. Of course spiced with talented people and great costumes. You are guaranteed to get in the Christmas spirit. Tickets can be purchased right here!
