What to do in NYC in October

One World Trade Center

Efteråret begynder sådan for alvor at kunne mærkes i New York.

Translation:

Fall has finally come to New York. Most days are cooler now and it’s actually really nice! I’m so happy to live in a place where seasons are changing. I used to think I would love to live in a place, that’s warm all year around, but not anymore. Especially after a long and hot summer it’s nice to experience some colder weather. Dress up in a sweater, drink tea and light candles – that’s cozy! But what can you do in NYC in October? There is plenty of things to do, and there’s also a lot of scary stuff going on in the month of October, because of Halloween.

One of the greatest things about Halloween is the many Halloween parties, where people dress up in crazy costumes. Last year I was at a really fun party dressed in a 70’s disco outfit. New York is known for its various parades all year around, and of course there’s also one at Halloween. The Village Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village is filled with witches, zombies and ghosts. It is free to participate only requirement is to wear a costume. Of course there is also the possibility to just watch the parade, which takes place October 31st from 7:00 to 22:30pm. The parade starts at Spring Street and continues up 6th Ave. Another crazy event, and something that I really would like to experience, is a haunted house. This is actually a thing in NYC in the month of October. Blood Manor is a haunted house, that is very well done and scary. You can find dates and buy tickets for the spooky experience, right here!

A place that is a must see in New York City is the One World Trade Center. An architectural gem, and with great views from the observatory deck overlooking downtown Manhattan. Here you can also experience The 9/11 Memorial Pools, which are placed in the footprints of the twin towers. Another extremely interesting and moving experience, you will find at The National Memorial Museum, which is based on the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. I really recommend you to experience all three places, and I think that a museum visit is great now that the weather is colder.

One of the best things in the fall season is nature and all the trees, which light up in red, yellow and orange colors. One of the most obvious and iconic places to see the flaming colors is in Central Park. Buy a cup of coffee and go for a walk in the beautiful park, which is extraordinarily stunning this time of year. The Americans call it fall foliage, when the leafs change color in the fall. And it’s very popular to go leaf peeping both in New York City parks, and also Upstate New York you can experience the beautiful sight.
