(English translation below)

Happy weekend everyone! I’ve been away for quite a while and it’s because I’ve been sick. Sometimes the best thing you can do is to slow down and take care of yourself, so I’ve done that, but luckily I’m feeling better now. I look forward to making a lot of new posts and content for the blog. I am also excited for shooting pictures again, I have missed that.

Some weekends back, these cakes were enjoyed, because a Danish bakery, called Ole & Steen, opened in New York City, and I am very excited about this. I think I might make a new tradition of eating cake every Friday, haha. The first store just opened at Union Square and they have so many delicious classic Danish cakes, pastries, and bread. I was literally in cake heaven, when I stepped in the door a few weeks ago. It may sound a bit crazy, that I can be so fond of a bakery opening, but when you live far away from your home country, getting specialties from there, is one of the best things.

This weekend will be spent relaxing and having fun, so that I can feel even better after being sick. Maybe some walks in the good weather, a cafe or restaurant visit, and a lot of movie watching. It sounds like a pretty nice weekend in my ears.

What are your plans? Maybe some cake eating (yes, I have cake on my brain atm, hah), relaxation or celebrations?

DENIM SHIRTVintage Wrangler, KNIT SWEATERGANNI, JEANSMONKI, BAGGANNI, BOOTSZARA

Urban beach is perhaps not the right word to use, because you can’t swim in the East River, but at least, it was the vibes that the place gave me, when I was there. A small area of sand and a maritime ambiance, in the midst of the big city and the tall buildings, overlooking the Manhattan Skyline at sunset. A pretty cool spot! The place is Brooklyn Bridge Park at Pier 5. There was recently built soccer pitches and basketball courts on the pier. And then there’s this little piece of beach, as I call it. Maybe I should bring a folding chair and a parasol, and sit there once summer arrives, haha! People would probably stare a bit.

Denim is undisputedly one of my favorite materials, which I mentioned before, I like wearing several denim pieces at the same time. I think I had this shirt, for a good 10 years. As far as I remember, I bought it in Copenhagen in a vintage store. That’s what I call a good buy, and it still look as great as when I bought it. It is the type of garment, which lasts a lifetime. I can never get tired of a classic denim shirt. It works for just about anything, as here when I styled it with my wool knit and jeans. A pretty nice winter look with a jacket on top, of course. The green color just gives the outfit a little extra!

By the way, I highly recommend taking a trip to Pier 5 and Brooklyn Bridge Park which is super beautiful, especially at sunset.

The Hygge Tibi in Industry City

(English translation below)

Det er tid til denne måneds What To Do In NYC! Her kommer ihvertfald inspiration til hyggelige sager her i vinterkulden.

Her finder man både kontorer, butikker og event spaces. Læs mere om stedet her!

Translation:

It’s time for this month’s What To Do In NYC! Honestly, I have to admit I had a hard time figuring out what to write about this month. Which should not be the case, because there is always something to do in New York. It probably has something to do with being a little January uninspired. Not uninspired in making content for the blog, but more about going out and exploring. I think I am hibernating, haha! January and February are not exactly my favorite months, do you feel the same way? It is the month after all that festivities as Christmas and New Years, and then it is way too dark and cold. Sorry I don’t want this to sound totally depressing, hah! Here’s some inspiration for cozy things to do in the winter cold.

Last weekend, I was visiting Industry City, located at the Sunset Park waterfront in Brooklyn. This is the second time I was there and the place is very cool, so I had to share it here. Industry City consists of a number of classic old New York industrial buildings, that have been refurbished. Here you will find both offices, shops and event spaces. Most of all, I love the large amount of food vendors you’ll find in the buildings. There is a large food hall packed with restaurants from all over the world. Japan Village just opened, here you can buy Japanese groceries for home cooking, or eat in one of the many Japanese food spots. In addition, I am liking the range of furniture stores such as ABC Carpet & Home and IC Store By Wanted Design. You can also try out the roller skating rink. I might have to try this next time I’m there. Industry City is really great during the winter and I can highly recommend to walk around the different buildings, because there is plenty to see and explore. Remember to visit the huge “hygge” tibi, yes it is actually called “hygge” tibi, with fairy lights in the ceiling and couches to chill in. “Hygge” is a Danish word, which can be translated into coziness. Read more about Industry City here!

Is there anything more cozy than sitting in a cafe, drinking a hot coffee or tea, maybe with a piece of cake on the side. It’s one of my favorite things to do, especially in the winter, haha! In SoHo you find the chic French Ladurée, which is both a restaurant and a tea room. It is classic and elegantly decorated. You can order both coffee and tea, and of course their famous macarons. My favorite is their cake with rose cream, which I do not remember the exact name of, but it is a heavenly mouthful. If you’re into French elegance and pastries, I can highly recommend you to stop by. Maybe while you’re shopping in SoHo. Ladurée is found at 398 W Broadway in SoHo.

A last cozy thing to do in January must be a museum visit. Among others, I can recommend: The Met, Whitney Museum, and Brooklyn Museum.

Blank Slate Tea: 121 Madison Ave, NY 1001

Translation:

If I say pink tea room, then it is a pretty good description of Blank Slate Tea. A small pink cafe on Madison Ave. It has a high factor of cuteness and is very girly. It is one of the very instagram-friendly places, that I can sometimes get a little enough of. Where there may be a tendency to have more focus on the surroundings and the presentation of the food, than how the food actually tastes. But there was something that attracted me to this place. I love tea and I always want to try a new kind. Blank Slate had a rose tea latte, which I just had to try. After I got off the job on Friday, I stopped by the little cafe to have lunch.

The place is really nice, cute and well done. I loved the rose tea latte, which was topped with dried rose petals. A pretty nice alternative to a chai latte. Of course not with the same spice and bite as a chai, but really good in a more mild way. In general I love pastries with a rosy flavor. Especially the French bakeries, are masters of making cream cakes with the taste of rose petals – a heavenly mouthful. In addition I tried their avocado toast, which was quite good, but not the best I ever had. The waffle with blueberry cream, on the other hand, was quite delicious in both consistency and taste.

I think that I could easily find myself stopping by the little pink spot some other time. Most of all for a cup of rose tea latte and preferably in the company of a girl friend. It is definitely the perfect place to have an afternoon tea with: sandwiches, cakes and scones.

Jeg mærker virkelig, at juletravlheden har sænket sig over New York. Bevares, denne by er altid travl, for det er trods alt the city that never sleeps!

Translation:

I really feel that the Christmas bustle has lowered over New York. Of course, this city is always busy, because after all it’s the city that never sleeps! But it feels like there are extra many people aboard the subway in the morning rush hour. The trains are packed like sardines, and I’m going all the way from Brooklyn to midtown so it’s quite a commute on a crowded train. It might also be that the weather has become colder, so people prefer the train rather than cycling or other transport. Which is fully understandable. I also think people are extra busy with Christmas shopping and work they have to finish up before the holidays. And then there are loads of tourists in the city for Christmas. I try to relax and spend extra time doing cozy things in December, even though I’m busy. I’ve even decorated the apartment for Christmas, actually the first time I’m decorating since I moved to New York, and it’s just so cozy. This weekend I’m getting even more in the Christmas spirit, since I’m going to make Gløgg, so it’s ready for Christmas. Gløgg is a Danish version of mulled wine. It’s not exactly mulled wine, but a more Christmasy version, with delicious spices. I might share a recipe one of the next couple of weeks. By the way, I also have to show you guys, what I did last weekend, which was also very festive and Christmasy, but this will be in another post.

Translation:

speaking of last weekend, I wore this outfit when Sam and I were going out for brunch. Once again we went to Saraghina. It has certainly become one of our favorite brunch places, haha. It’s not too crowded with people, the food is so delicious, and the prices are good. Before we went out to eat, we shot some pictures. The light was absolutely magical with the beautiful shadows. It’s the best when you just hit the perfect light. My outfit was quite bright, although it is winter, but it worked really well, I think. It actually gave me the urge to wear outfits that light up more here in the dark winter time. I like to play around with contrasts in my outfits. Especially when it comes to materials and texture. I therefore had styled a silk blouse with a vintage army jacket, a cotton skirt and a pair of shinny bordeaux western boots. To make the outfit extra feminine, I added my beloved pearl bag and my new pearl earrings from my sister. I have been so fond of the silk blouse from H&M Trend. The high neck and the draped look in the front, not to mention that the quality is so amazing. It’s unfortunately sold out online, but I’ll keep an eye on it and see if it comes back in stock. It’s actually also available in black, which is also sold out (sigh), I hope to get my hands on it at some point.

I’m gonna spend the rest of the evening relaxing. Maybe watch a christmas movie! Which Christmas movie is your favorite? I could use some inspiration.
